New Furry Friend? These Cat Tips Can Help!

You might have already raised a pet in the past. You might have even said that you would never raise another pet, but it’s never too late to look towards the future and adopt a lonely kitten. Adopting cats at the local shelter helps get them off of the streets and back in a healthy home. You should keep a few key questions in mind while visiting your local shelters.

If you’re thinking of getting a cat for a pet, you should look to the local shelter. There are tons of loving cats there, and the fees often cover the needed vet care. When you bring home a shelter cat, you will be saving its life and you will be doing your part to help out.

Make sure you purchase medicines and treatments specifically for cats. Cats don’t like dog products. Flea products are a great example of this. Flea treatments made for a dog can be fatal to a cat. If you own a dog, and they’ve been given a flea treatment, you should separate them from your cat for a few hours.

As your cat gets older, changes in behavior may signal pain. If your cat doesn’t like to jump or climb any more, it may be in pain. If your cat stops taking care of grooming or stops using its litter box, pain may be the cause. Be sure to have your older cat checked out by your vet if you notice behavior changes.

Cats are hunters by nature. They love to chase mice and other small animals and insects. Buying little fuzzy mice filled with catnip and batting them around with your cat is a great idea. Your cat will feel as though they are really hunting prey. This will also help you to connect with your cat better.

Pet

Use your cat to teach your children responsibilities. A pet demands care that the whole family can participate in. Each child can take different day to feed the cat, for instance. Same thing for litterbox care. You can make a schedule and post it on the refrigerator. Then, everyone knows what they are responsible for.

Make sure you are cautious about leaving a young child alone with a small kitten. Particularly if the children are younger than five, they need supervision. They are just not mature enough to understand the danger they can pose for the kitten. As a kid ages, they can show maturity with handling a little pet.

Pet Adoption

If you are looking for a new home for your kitty, consider registering with an online pet adoption agency. Some of these companies screen applicants, so you will be sure that your pet is going into a good home. This is better than selling him to a creep who lurks around Craigslist all the time.

Shelters are not the only source of local pet adoptions. You can find classifieds in the papers or online where citizens are offering cats, kittens, and everything else in between for little-to-no cost.. Many times, these people are giving these pets away for free in hopes of giving them a good home.
